The slot machine was first invented in 1895 by Charles Fey of San Francisco.  It was called the Liberty Bell slot machine, and although at the time the name “slot machine” referred to as any automatic vending machines as well as gambling machines, this particular slot machine was made for people to win money.  The Liberty Bell slot machine had three reels that spun with a grand prize of 50 cents when you got 3 cracked liberty bells in a row.  It wasn’t modern by any means, but the people that played it loved the theory behind it. 

The slot machine has certainly grown since then with payoffs well into the millions on many of the progressive slot machines.  Instead of just the 3 reel slot machine, you can have up to 50 lines on many of the video slot machines, and people just can’t seem to get enough.  In over 100 years the slot machine has evolved, and will continue to evolve well into the future.
